Stacey Abrams Considers 2026 Campaign, Focuses on Kamala Harris and Georgia’s Role

In a recent interview on 11Alive’s The Georgia Vote, Stacey Abrams hinted that she may run for governor again in 2026. “All options are on the table,” the Democrat said, though she did not make a firm commitment to another campaign.

Georgia will have an open gubernatorial race in 2026, as current Governor Brian Kemp will be term-limited and unable to seek re-election. Abrams previously ran against Kemp in 2018 and 2022, but was unsuccessful in both attempts.

In her interview, Abrams described a potential run for office as “one of the tools in the toolbox” for improving lives, but emphasized that her current focus is on supporting Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign. “Through Vice President Harris and Governor Walz, we can show not only America but the world that Georgia is always going to be on the forefront of moving this country forward,” Abrams stated.

Abrams also highlighted Georgia’s crucial role in the upcoming presidential election. “We are a battleground state and what that means is people have to fight to win Georgia,” she said. “This is about our future. This is about our freedom. And we have a chance in this election to restart the narrative of Georgia and the U.S. being a beacon of democracy and freedom.”

During the extended interview with 11Alive, Abrams shared her insights on the Harris-Walz ticket and elaborated on the significance of Georgia in shaping the future of the nation.
